Mount Desert Summer Chorale

Fund for the Future

For many years, the Mount Desert Summer Chorale has depended on generous donors to provide over half our annual budget. Although this is fairly typical among arts organizations, this approach is fraught with risk and uncertainty and, in the long run, unsustainable.

Accordingly, in 2006 the MDSC Board approved the establishment of an endowment to ensure a dependable income stream. We recognized the enthusiastic support of the membership would be a critical element in the success of such a campaign. This proposal was therefore presented to members of the Chorale just two weeks prior to last year's performance of the Mozart "Requiem." The central theme of the presentation was that we have been the beneficiaries of the hard work, dedication and generosity of those who have sustained the Summer Chorale for our 38 year history and that we owed it to them and to future generations to honor their commitment by being responsible stewards of this institution that we love so much.

By opening night, we had received an astonishing response of more than $43,000 in gifts and pledges ranging from $10,000 to a pledge of 25 cents a week for four years from one of our students. Almost every member of the Chorale made a commitment to what we now call the "Fund for the Future".

We are now ready to commence the second phase of the campaign for MDSC's Fund for the Future. We hope that you will join with us to ensure that the Mount Desert Summer Chorale continues for generations to come. To find out more or to participate, please contact us.
